Happy 5th Birthday, Nathan!

Yesterday, our "little boy" turned 5! He's been sooooo excited about his birthday for months. 3 months ago, the constant "how many day till my birthday?" question spurred me on to make Nathan a giant paper chain. He helped me put it together and every day he takes off a link. The chain is finally gone, and our 4 year old is now FIVE! Where did 5 years go!?!

We had a little family celebration for Nathan yesterday. He picked his favorite meal - spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Then we had cupcakes and some presents. The rest of his birthday celebration comes Saturday, when he has his party with some friends. He's just as excited for that!

Nathan will have his "big cake" Saturday. He wants one shaped like Bucky the pirate ship on the Disney show Jake & the Neverland Pirates. Oh oh... Mommy's not that good of a cake decorator and I've never attempted to sculpt a cake. So this will be interesting! I remind myself, though, that he's 5. I could probably have a slab of chocolate cake with some blue and white stripes and a figurine of Jake and Nathan would still be thrilled :)  If all else fails... that's what he'll get. ha

But for his actual birthday, we bought some Spiderman cupcakes from the store and Nathan was thrilled to pieces!

The girls enjoyed the cupcakes - and mostly icing, too :)

Presents time!
Nathan eagerly opened the package from his great grandparents

A card!

And an awesome Cars book of crafts to do. Nathan is already picking out things he wants to make from the book. This is a perfect gift for our Lightning McQueen loving budding artist :) Thank you Great Grand Mama & Papa!

Next, what could be in the big bag from Mommy, Daddy, Faith & Ruth?

Chalk... paintbrushes.... wipe board markers... a giant roll of paper.... huh?
And a Connect Four game! He's already learning strategy to play, and is ready to take on Gramma in a one-on-one battle when she gets here. :)

And the art supplies???
Were for his new easel!

This little boy could color half the day away. Some days, he does.
He's been slowly learning to draw things. Lady bugs, family & Noah's ark are his favorite things to draw. I'll upload pics of those in another post soon. I know an easel isn't a "cool boy toy" but Nathan will get hours and hours of enjoyment out of it - and it'll help with homeschooling kindergarten this year too (that's another post all together, too).

Oh, I almost forgot. He got giant Jake & the Neverland Pirate coloring pages for his easel, too!

So what is 5 year old Nathan like?? If I don't share, I'll forget. So here goes...

46'' tall
42 lbs
95th percentile for height
59th percentile for weight
size 6 in shirts
size 5 (regular, not T) in shorts/pants
size 12 in shoes

His favorite foods are spaghetti & meatballs with garlic bread, corn, green beans, mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, lunchables and apples with cookie butter. And he still doesn't like broccoli ;)

His favorite color is yellow

His favorite characters are Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Spiderman, and Lightning McQueen. I think its funny that he likes Spiderman, because if you ask Nathan bout Spiderman, you'll find out that he knows NOTHING about the guy. But he still thinks spiderman is awesome. I think he must hear about him from kids at church?

Natha loves to color, put puzzles together, play board games, read books, play basketball, draw, paint, and play Mario Kart on the wii. I know it's far too early to guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if he follows in his Daddy's engineering footsteps one day.

When Nathan grows up, he says he wants to be a "race car man" and plans to drive a yellow car.

He's a Daddy's boy that enjoys "helping" Daddy in the shop, or watching Daddy work on the car. He loves to watch football, basketball or baseball with Daddy, too. And go to "Daddy's store" (Lowes). And he won't dare let anyone cut his hair except his Daddy! Oh, and if Daddy's doesn't like it, Nathan doesn't either. Hence a saying in our house (started by Nathan): "boys don't eat tomatoes"  haha!

Nathan is a sweet big brother who tries hard to help his sisters a lot. I love catching him try to help feed Ruth, or help her up on the couch. Or console Faith when she falls. Or tell Faith. "I cheer you up" when she's trying to compete at something (he means "I'll cheer for you"). He still has plenty to learn and mature, but Nathan is a huge blessing to our family and I know God's got some amazing plans in store for his life!

Happy 5th birthday, big guy!
