Ruth's 2nd Birthday

Ruth turned 2 right before Christmas, and she got to celebrate the milestone with a family party - and pink strawberry cake - at her Aunt Kristen & Uncle Dave's in Arizona.

Gramma tried to offer the candle for Ruthie to lick. But she wanted no part of it. It's ironic that the child known at church for licking everything is also the child that rarely wants to lick icing, mixer spoons, cookie dough, etc.

But she was pretty tickled that the cake was hers.
After all "mine" in one of her newly mastered words.

Everyone enjoyed some cake, and Ruth enjoyed the center of attention.

PRESENTS!
She got a play doctor set from Gramma.

And a magnetic drawing board from Mommy & Daddy.

And a new outfit, book and purse from Aunt Kristen & Uncle Dave

Her favorite, though? Picking teeny tiny pieces of wrapping paper off and handing them - one by one - to Gramma :)  We feared Christmas morning was going to take forever. haha

Reading her new book, and playing with her new purse before bed.

Big sibs had to "test out" the doctor kit for Ruthie, too.
Mommy's normal. Yay! (The doctor kit must need adjustment)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUTHIE BEAR!

Silly Mountain

Poor Gramma got stuck piled under too much work today. Auntie M stayed to help her out while the rest of us took off for a hike. Aunt Kristen took us to Silly Mountain.

I'm not sure what's Silly about it. But it's certainly a mountain. Oh wait, that map says "Old Baldy" is a point of interest. I saw him - and he is kinda silly ;)

Aunt Kristen "helping" Faith up the mountain.
A few times, Faith asked: "Are we going to make it?" I asked her if she needed more energy and she told me she would get some from Jesus ;)

We took a few breaks to catch our breath, enjoy the scenery and take some pics

And then "Old Baldy" decided to RUN up the hill.
Ruth loved that! But Old Baldy didn't last too long.

At the top of Silly Mountain, we found some shade and had lunch.

And Faith thought she wanted to take a nap.

While Daddy decided to go to the top of the highest peak.

I tried to convince Nathan to take a silly "falling off the mountain" photo.
This is close ;)

Then I posed with Ruth so I could pretend I carried her up & down the mountain. But, in reality, Old Baldy did ;)

Those kids did great on our almost 2 hour hike up the mountain!

Faith loves her Aunt Kristen!

Oh! and look! I finally figured out why they call it "Silly Mountain":

Merry Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Christmas Eve, we visited Uncle Dave & Aunt Kristen's church for their Christmas Eve service

Then Christmas morning, we hung out until Auntie M and Gramma came over to open presents.

We ended up relocating to the basement because it was so warm - 70+ degrees for Christmas is still weird, even after 4 Christmases in the deep south.

Ruthie got a giant stuffed doggie from her Auntie M.

And Faith got a princess castle! (she asked to sleep with it tonight)

Ruth is getting the hang of this unwrapping thing!

She got new clothes from Aunt Kristen & Uncle Dave and requested to try them on right away.

Nathan got some play mobie toys from Auntie M - firefighters!

And a princess shirt for Faith!

Her favorite toy of the year? Just might be that little unicorn!

While Ruth enjoyed the residual stickiness of a gift tag

More play mobile! Nathan got a boys toys catalog in the mail a few months ago. He's enjoyed looking through it and dreaming. He has had his hopes set high on getting this Spy Car Play Mobile set for a month. Gramma made that dream come true - he's one happy boy!

A new My Little Pony from Great Aunt Helen!
If only a photo expressed the high pitch squeal of joy that Faith let out!

And then Ruth got another new outfit.
And requested another outfit change!

And then a little bit later, another new outfit, another outfit change!
I guess Ruth loves clothes ;)

Nathan & Faith got an r/c light up thing-a-ma-bob.
It's a car, but it twists and miss-shapes, it's pretty fun to watch.

And Ninja legos from Uncle Dave &Aunt Kristen!

Great Aunt Helen spoiled Nathan with a Nintendo 3DS. Wow!
He was thrilled, even though he hadn't a clue what it was. He played it for 3-4 hours throughout the rest of that day, and at bedtime complained that "I didn't get to play it at all today!" ha

Faith, ever the drama queen, was amazed, in awe, thrilled, ecstatic, over the top happy for gloves. Can you blame her? They're pink. haha  I love that girl and her awesome reactions!

Ruthie got a new book and read it with Gramma.

And she got a singing lullaby bear from Gramma, too.

Princesses! The princess loves them!

And then the kids finished off with a board game to share.

Faith with her favorite gift - the unicorn toy she loves!

Then it was the adults' turns... Aunt Kristen got some new jewelry.

So did Auntie M.

There is the princess, she's tied her unicorn to her belt ;)

Uncle Dave got a surprise from Aunt Kristen...
Only he saw it coming, so it wasn't nearly as funny as last year with Uncle Jr ;)

More jewelry!

And then Gramma opened a gift from Nathan.
He picked it out himself and was so excited to give it to Gramma.
And Gramma couldn't stop laughing! It was an awesome gift. What was it?

This! A rhinestone studded giant 3D silver spider necklace.
Awesome!

How could she not hug Nathan for such a thoughtful gift?!?

And Ruthie got Auntie M some GIANT orange earrings!

Oooh, now that looks good, Mary!

Then it was Uncle Dave's turn for his crazy gift from his nephew & nieces. What could it be?

SWANTS!! Oh Yeah!
A sweater that Kim turned into awesome pants, just for him :D

Work it, Dave!

Kristen, worried what was headed her way, got off a bit easy.
She got the gag gift that gets passed around every year. You never know where it'll show up. This year, Aunt Kristen was the lucky recipient!

Gramma got some hand painted Precious Moments ornaments.
Notice Nathan is a smurf. Faith is as African child with pink hair. And Ruth is just a mess ;)
The kids enjoyed painting them from Gramma! And now Gramma has some unique Precious Moments to add to her collection ;)

Ruthie had fun helping Gramma open gifts

And Daddy had fun helping Nathan put his toys together.

Stocking time!

Merry Christmas to everyone! We hope your day was relaxing, full of laughter and fun, and a chance to stop and remember what this day is really all about: the best gift of all - our Savior, Jesus Christ!
