Saturday evening Jacob had a work event, and Faith had a birthday party. So that left Nathan, Ruth & I to fend for ourselves for a bit. The kids wanted breakfast for dinner, so a date at IHOP it was!
IHOP's kids menu is all pictures (which is great!). Nathan asked for the silver dollar pancakes. And Ruth was just over delighted by the smiley face pancake. So we ordered.
The kids loved their plates! Nathan devoured his meal and Ruth dove straight into your yogurt, once she stopped ooing and awing over her silly faced pancake. When the yogurt was gone, I started to cut her giant pancake up for her. BIG MISTAKE!
She began to scream, "Eyes!! EYES! NO!!!!! EYES!!!"
I guess it was her way of saying "that's a person mommy, don't hurt them!"
I tried to convince her to eat the fruit and pancake a few times. And each time she revolted in horror that I thought she should eat such a cute face! So what's a mom to do? I offered her the short stack of pancakes that came with my omelet. And she loved it!
What a stinker! We all sat around our $4.99 pancake face that went untouched for the rest of the meal. I did, eventually, convince Nathan to eat a strawberry eye, after I ate one. I think he was worried doing that would upset his sister. And it did, a bit. But she lived.
Ruth's always been more fascinated by faces than any of the kids (and they all loved faces - don't all babies?). As an infant, just being able to stare at a toy with a face would calm her down. Maybe she's going to be a sociologist or psychiatrist, or something that involves people - and maybe emotions? - one day? It'll be interesting to see how God uses this sweet little girl that couldn't harm a fly.... or pancake ;)
