Awana Awards Night

Sunday afternoon was our end of year Awana Awards night.

Ruth got a certificate for participating in Puggles.

Technically, she's not a Puggle. You have to be 2 by Sept 1. But there's nothing else at our church for her age on the Sundays our whole family stayed at church all day. So she got an introduction to Puggles this year, she only went a few times. And next year she'll be an official Puggle!

She was still proud to get a certificate!

Which she proceeded to chew on... ha

Oh yeah, and she wasn't scared of Cubbie Bear at all!

 

 

Faith got an award for finishing her first year of Cubbies.

 

 

She was just a little bit excited. haha

She jumped for joy and RAN screaming "I did it! I won!"

I can't wait to see what this little girl does on her high school graduation stage ;)

 

I think Mr. Ron was worried she'd fall over, she was going so fast!

He held our his arm to catch her, just in case. She was wild :D

 

Faith sat and admired her Appleseed Ribbon. She was so proud!

She still is. She wore it most of the day yesterday around the house.

 

And Nathan finished his 3rd year of Cubbies, getting his Appleseed Ribbon, too!

Cubbies is suppose to be a 2 year program... but we kept Nathan back from Kindergarten this year and so he (and a few friends) did Cubbies for a 3rd year. It worked our perfectly, since Awana changed the Cubbie curriculum this year and they all got new books. So he has 3 different awards.

 

He was pretty proud of his accomplishments, too!

Next year, he'll be a Sparky! Craziness.

Fiesta Parade

Fiesta is a giant 18 day long party in San Antonio every year. I'm pretty sure there's no reason for it except to give locals and tourists an excuse to party for 18 days! There's tons of parades, parties and events all around town this time of year.

The kids got in the Fiesta spirit with their own fiesta parade yesterday at Kids Day Out. Mommy volunteers as the church preschool ministry volunteer coordinator in exchange for KDO for the kids one day a week (and office hours for me) ;)  The kids love KDO, and had a great time at their Fiesta Parade yesterday.  

 

Yup, that's Flat Stanley. He's visiting from AL and had fun at the parade, too.

¡Viva Fiesta!

Easter Sunday

Easter morning, the kids went on a hunt for their baskets after breakfast.

I warned them that Mommy hid them good this year. But by the time I got my camera, Faith had already found her basket and dug in! Nathan, however was still searching for his...

 

Hmm... where could it be?!

 

Sis helped Nathan out, after a game of "hot and cold" had him a little lost.

 

Ruthie had little trouble find her's, and digging right in, too!

 

And Mommy found her basket!

Well... actually I found it Saturday... I didn't know Daddy and kids were secretly planting it when I went outside to check on them ;)

 

Daddy couldn't find his basket before church. So when we got home, he searched high and low.

 

And he found his, too!

 

After lunch, the kids all wanted to change into the new PJs that were in their basket. Princesses and Legos. 3 happy kiddos took good naps that Easter Sunday :D

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday evening, all the young family Sunday School

classes got together for a cook out and Easter Egg Hunt.

 

 

Almost 200 people showed up for dinner, music, a devotion and the big hunt.

 

Ruth knew what to do, she was just a little slow to remember ;)

 

What Ruth REALLY wanted to do, though, was find some eggs and

then REHIDE them for other kids. hahahahaha! Here she is hiding some eggs in the play kitchen.

 

And then it became obvious that the REAL fun was playing on the playground.

Who cares about silly eggs. There's too much playing to be done!

 

Nathan & Faith's group was slightly more competitive. And they wee quicker to find eggs, not so willing to rehide eggs, and certainly no interest in playing when they knew what was in those eggs!

 

Ruth even helped them out - she found an egg and passed it to her sister on the other side of that playset.

Then Ruth spotted her Kids Day Out teacher and asked for help opening an egg.

CANDY!! Now she could play and eat :D

 

Ruth turned into a bit of a candy monster at this point. Good thing she only found 5 eggs ;)

 

Off she went, when candy in her hands (and mouth), to visit the big kids egg hunt.

 

I'm still not sure if she was going that way to cheer them on, or find some more candy for herself ;)

 

But she was redirected and found DADDY!

 

She even tried to share her oreo with Daddy, but he didn't want a bite. Go figure.

 

After lots of play and candy, cascarones came out.

These are definitely a Texas thing. Probably primarily San Antonio thing?

 

 

They're egg shells filled with confetti, sealed with tissue paper and decorated.

You're suppose to smash them on a friend's head for good luck.

But kids just like smashing them to make a mess in a friend's hair :D

 

Faith asked Daddy to bend down. But daddy was wiser than she hoped.

 

So she tried to smash it on a friend, but it didn't break.

So I asked Faith if I could see her carcasone. And she wasn't as wise as her Daddy ;)

 

Poor Faith. She survived. Mean mommy.

But she got a lesson in being a good sport ;)

 

The kids had a great time at the hunt.

And NO carcasones came home with us.
